Challenging

Rising steadily up along the GR7 the route passes through the quiet villages of Cañar and Soportujar before arriving at entrance to the Poqueira Gorge and then steeply rising through Pampaneira to the village of Bubión perched on the side of the gorge.

Lanjarón to Bubión on the GR7 path map

Moderate

A circular walking tour of the dramatic and not to be missed, Poqueira gorge. After passing through Capileira we drop down to the valley bottom and follow the path as it winds its way up and alongside the river. At Cortijo Tomas we turn west and follow a high path on the western side before dropping down to the river. A final steep climb brings us back to Capileira and Bubión.

Poqueira Gorge hiking map

Moderate

A series of whitewashed villages. Down through Mecina Fondales and Fondales before crossing the Rio Trevelez and climbing up steep zig zags to the ridgeline. Now we turn east with superlative views of the Sierra Nevada. A final steep descent and climb brings us to the village of Busquístar.

Delightful walking along the Rio Trevelez valley to the Refugio Horcajo where the Rio Juntillas joins from the left.

A gently rising but well graded track heads south out of the village, through wooded and varied scenery. A steep descent into the Barranco de la Bina is made before climbing out the other side and continuing down to Busquistar

Challenging

For those with the energy to make this ascent you will be well rewarded. Siete Laguans is a series of high lakes set in a high valley. A beautiful area surrounded by Mulhacen and Alcazaba the highest points of mainland Spain. The scenery is wild and dramatic and contarsts with the beautiful lakes and green grassy banks. Siete Lagunas is a tough but well worthwhile day.
