Glamping accommodation in the Alpujarras, foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Spain
Spanish Highs has teamed up with Chaparra Eco Lodge to bring you the luxury camping alternative known as Glamping!
What is Glamping?
Between Heaven and Yurt!
The word is a 21st century hybrid of 'glamorous' and 'camping' and is defined as a form of camping involving accommodation and facilities more luxurious than those associated with traditional camping.
Why do so many love the idea of camping? I think it's because it's so different from our typical daily lives. Being amongst nature, the fresh air, the animals, the trees, the beauty, far away from the city, far away from home, far away from our daily routines, doing things differently, the challenge of coping with basic equipment... The list goes on.
Glamping offers an opportunity to experience all the benefits of traditional camping, but without the need to be overly organised or prepared. Just like any other holiday, you book your flights, pack your bags and rock up.
Your Glamping accommodation is the camping equivalent of a hotel... Your own private space, a real bed, with proper linen, clean towels, running water, a hot shower and a hot breakfast and the opportunity to prepare other meals with ease and convenience. And these are just the basics, often Glamping will include really lovely facilities like a swimming pool, a sauna and hot tub.
Therefore, whether you are a seasoned camper, or a hardened sceptic, Glamping is likely to appeal as it offers all the fun and benefits of camping without any hassle.
Recommended to arrive by car, having flown in to either Malaga, Almeria or Granada. Granada is the closest airport
Lanjaron is the gateway to the Alpujarra, the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. from Malaga you will head east along the A7 and as you approach Motril you will turn left up the hill towards Granada to reach Lanjaron which lies 600 m above sea level.
Chaparra Eco Lodge sits another 400m up the Chaparra mountain, nestled into a canyon and amongst centuries old fruit and nut trees dripping with either blossom or fruit, depending on the time of your visit.
Strongly recommend you visit the website at Chaparra Eco Lodge www.chaparraecolodge.com for a full list of their facilities. In summary
The Yurts are fully insulated and therefore perfectly pleasant in both summer and winter. They are spacious and comfortable with king size beds and everything you will need to make your stay enjoyable. The facilities include an eco toilet and shower, a lovely pool and terrace, a shaded outdoor lounge and dining room with an open fire, BBQ and several hammock sanctuaries placed throughout the orchard.
Activities available using the accommodation as a base
All Spanish Highs activities throughout the year can be easily accessed using the Eco Lodge as a base. However the lodge itself sits very close to the 3000m+ mountains of Cerrillo Redondo and Tajos de los Machos. Also the pine forests above Puente Palo are close. This in particular means it is superbly located for walking and hiking, snowshoeing and backcountry ski touring.
