Some forested areas devastated by the large avalanches of last winter
A couple of photos I found on the net showing the lower San Juan valley in the Sierra Nevada. This is the valley running east of the line from the Hoya de la Mora to Veleta peak.
Large avalanches hit here in February unfortunately leading to the death of 1 person. What I didn't realise was that some further large avalanches occurred even lower down than 2500m. The photo below shows a winter view of lower San Juan. The Hoya de la Mora is on the top left skyline. Line of avalanche breaks is clearly seen coming down into the treeline. ![]() Now here is the result of the second lower avalanche seen in the photo above. Large demolition of forested areas. ![]() Full thread in spanish from Nevasport Websites Spanish Highs Mountain Guides and Sierra Nevada News & Trip Reports |
