British woman injured in fall on snow near Veleta, Sierra Nevada
In the last two weeks there have been several serious accidents, mainly slips and falls on snow and especially in the area of Tajos de la Virgen", "Elorrieta" and Veleta. Some of the injured were equipped with crampons and ice axes, some were not. At the moment they should be carried if meeting and crossing steep snow slopes.

Latest accident was yesterday afternoon when a British woman fell and suffered grave head injuries about 200m below the Elorrieta refugio. She was disorientated but managed to summon the Guardia Civil Rescue Services. She was transported by helicopter to hospital in Granada. I hope she recovers quickly.

This area is a bad spot. Steep convex slopes. Only last week we turned around when ascending to the Elorrieta due to poor snow conditions. Its not a trekking area until the snow goes!
