Sierra Nevada snow update for trekkers and mountaineers
Still lots of snow above 2600m on the north side. Today we were intent on going to the Elorietta hut and coming back down to Lanjaron next day. We parked at the Hoya de la Mora at 8:45am. There is little snow until Borreguiles (Sierra Nevada middle station).

From there is plenty of snow. Initially very easy to walk on, but by midday it was getting more difficult. The traverse to the Elorietta hut is a bit dodgy. There are sections of very deep, unconsolidated snow. We decided not to risk it as there have been accidents here and we decided it was better to return another day.

Suggest a crossing pre 10am would be necessary. Crampons for the most part but still the deep unconsolidated crud would have to be negotiated.

Not really in a state for trekkers doing Los Tres Miles. The ridge of Tajos de la Virgen might well be the safer option.

Photo taken today showing our group crossing the traverse. Note the amount of snow!
