Sendero Sulayr

I got out on a quick circular route last week following the “Sendero Sulayr” but starting from Bar Volante in Lanjaron, heading up to the Casa Forestal de Tello and then back down via the Ventura track. The scenery on the way up was fantastic with the snow capped Caballo peak in the background and the ascent of 1,100m was far easier than it sounds. The views on the way down from Ventura are also impressive but the track is long and monotonous so I’ll look to come back down via Puete Palo next time.

Sounds a big day Andy. I might have been persuaded to stay in the Volante for a few mojitos as happened Saturday night!

I believe you can come back down from Tello by following the acequia round on the west side of the Rio Lanjaron. A better bet than the Ventura track which winds interminably round.

Los Tres Miles. You are obviously a "purist". But which way is the purer? Jerez to Lanjaron (N to S) or Lanjaron to Jerez (S to N)?

Its a fun bar – we always tend to start our tapas tours in Volante and either never leave or never make it back!

I’ll have a look at that route down from Tello rather than across the river to Puetne Palo as that would take me back closer to home.

Los Tres Miles, well to be a complete purist I’d say I should start and finish the trek on foot which means getting up to Picon de Jerez and back again to Lanjaron. That’s too extreme for my first attempt, but you could make quite an interesting “circuit” of the high peaks if you have the stamina for it. Out of interest, how much harder/longer is the Tajos Altos path from Caballo to the Ellorieta hut versus the lower level one to the South of the ridge?

The Tajos Altos path is the more interesting way but much longer timewise. Probably about 5hrs from the Caballo hut to Elorietta. Faint track in places and a bit of simple scrambling between the Cartujo and the hut.

Heres an idea?????? What about a there and back Tres Miles for charity in the summer? Lanjaron to Jerez and visa versa. 10 days out!

OK but let me get an "easy" Los Tres Miles under my belt first though - its pencilled in for July.

I think we need a quicker route, 10 days unsupported is a lot of vino to be carrying

How quick could we do it, out and back if we covered all the normal peaks as you would on a classic LTM but then went for speed on the return, so only cover Mulhacen once and take the lower path back instead of the Tajos Altos for example?
