The road to the Ventura trailhead is in a bad condition, much affected by snow and leaves us with a long trudge to the south ridge of Cerro de Caballo. Tomorrow we aim to try an access from the high track SW of the summit of Morra Alta up a barranco we have viewed from the main autovia. Vamos a ver! I will report back in due course.
This is of course what makes the Sierra Nevada such a fascinating and varied mountain range
Sounds interesting....get some piccies !!!

Have to report a failed "mission". We spent 2hrs going up and down impossible 4WD tracks, nearly getting lost, stuck, killed on the way.
Reached the base of the Barranco Haza de Gardenas route. No snow. Hard tough steep going from the road, so eventually managed to turn the car round (teetering over precipitous drops!) and promptly got lost again.
Eventually my local guide, Pepe Badaje, remembered the correct route but by then we were too late. Anyway reached the firebreak on the crest of the Caballo S ridge eventually. Walked up it for 30 mins and arrived at the road we should have come in on. You are then above the Ventura.
Will make good access to south ridge if we ever find the correct way!

But we did get a most amazing close encounter of the Golden Eagle kind today. 100m away from us, at the same height as us, fantastic. 1 for the memory bank tho cause wheres my camera ....... At the camera docs in Granada!

Not a complete failure then if you did eventually find the correct road ?!!
