MSR Pocket Rocket
I have just ordered a Pocket Rocket for short trips into the mountains. I have been using a Trangia for some years and wondered if anyone has had any good/bad experiences with either.

I agree, a great little stove. In cold conditions and to counter unstable ground I sometimes take an attachment to isolate the gas cartridge. In my attached photo I've got it off the snow and on my foam sit mat. This seems to help in terms of the gas burning efficiently in cold temperatures. The attachment adds a few grams.

Here's a link to the gadget if you haven't already seen one.

Thanks Dave P, that add-on for the burner looks good and well priced, however I will road (mountain) test it in it's raw form to start with. Like the tip regarding the gas bottle, will try and emulate that one.

Another couple of tips that work with my Primus Eta PackLite:in cold conditions, keep the gas cartridge in your pocket for 10 minutes and then turn it upside down when connected to the stove.

RE: MSR Pocket Rocket
Hi Anna,

I have used my pocket rocket for the past 10 years without a problem. I use the plastic legs (similar to the ones you found) on uneven or cold ground and it works great. I keep thinking it will pack in soon so I got a Crux Optimus as a back-up but P.R. is still cooking my dinner OK....a great purchase...you won't regret it Big Grin
