Latest Snow and Mountain Conditions from the Poqueira hut, Sierra Nevada
Temperatures have been high and the snow level has continued to rise, especially south-facing slopes. Snow level varies between 2400 and 2800 meters.
Most sheltered access via the refugio by Cebadilla Power Station (3h - 3h30 'approx) or acequias (3h). Access on skis can be done by the Hoya del Portillo after a 30 min walk to Puerto Molina. Watch the wind direction. Continuous snow on the peaks above 2800m. Icy on some wind blown slopes am. Wet and slushy snow developing pm. Essential ice ax and crampons! The bivouac shelter at the Caldera is habitable and very clean. Full Report from the refugio (in Spanish) Websites Spanish Highs Mountain Guides and Inspiring the Adventure |
