How to construct and build snow shelters

Come across a very interesting article from the "Field Manual for the U.S. Antarctic Program" which explains how to build different snow shelters in the Antarctic, as well as the relative merits of each type of shelter and the time required to build each type of shelter.

Don't worry Spready, you'll be the first to know when the first snows arrive! When they do I'm going up to the Cebollar area to use the Cebollar hut as a base for a few nights. Intend to try out a few of these shelter designs if I can.

Be great if we get the chance to build ourselves some nice shelters like in section 11.2 whilst on the Patagonian Icecap this year. Lets hope the weather is stable enough for time to build

David could have told you how to build snow shelters he used to construct, live and operate out of these for 3 months a year in Norway. Think he might of mentioned this to you.

Cant remember. Anyway he is welcome to show us all how when he comes out! I have built snow walls in Patagonia and snow trenches in the Alps before.
