Personally I prefer a hooped bivi bag. This gives you the option of reading and having some head space and storage space even if the summer bugs are thick outside or the winter blizzard is in fulls wing.

I have had hooped bivi bags from North face and Terra Nova in the past. I currently use a Terra Nova Jupiter (still only 840g). See http://www.terra-nova.co.uk/Product_Type...r_RED.html. At 270 quid not cheap but will last a lifetime. Might squeeze 2 very very friendly people in there at a pinch?????

You could also have a look at the Rab Ridge raider http://rab.uk.com/products/equipment/biv...aider.html
