I have just brought one of these ice axes for our trip to Bolivia, as I wont be leading any of the climbs this seems to be the perfect ice axe for me and one that will not be put away in the store shed after this trip and forgotten about as I will be able to use it in the Sierra Nevada as my normal ice axe.

The SUMMIT is designed for the modern practice of classic mountaineering. The curved shaft provides the necessary clearance on steep or icy terrain. The light, forged steel head attached to the shaft ensures maximum efficiency. More details can be found here on the Petzl website.

I shall let you know how it performs in Bolivia and here in the Sierra Nevada. If anyone else has used one of these axes, let us know your thoughts on it.
