My trusty La Sportiva Nepal Extremes that have lasted for the last 10 years have finally begun to feel their age. The toe and heel area crampon attachments have worn and last winter i had to resort to buckle bindings rather than step ins as a result.

The only other problem I use to have was above 3800m on Mont Blanc on icy summit days when I used to lose some feeling in my toes.

Now I want a replacement. The obvious contender is the upgraded La Sportiva called the "Nepal Evo GTX". Most reviews I have read are favourable. Anybody any other ideas?

Salomon super mountain expert or similar grade (there are many depending on the warmth you require)...the larger toe box gives you more scope for posh footbeds and you wont get blisters on your heels....Morgan, Simon, Clive and myself have all converted....go on....stop punishing your heels  !! Cool

Ive always found those Salomen thingies more suited to gay frenchmen than rugged northern types. They have never fit me right, too narrow and slim. Oops, thats given the game away as Ive told you I once tried them on  Roll Eyes

Never heard of these before but they get good write ups and look good for the summer stuff here in the Sierra Nevada

I highly recommend them. I have used a pair for 6 months now and also bought a pair of 390 boots, which are basically the same sole but in boot form. They really are waterproof - I only got the boots after a couple of streams turned out to be deeper than they first appeared...

The fit is a little funny so it can be risky ordering them over the internet and they do trade weight for durability - you guys would probably need to budget for 2 or 3 pairs a year!
