            <title>Apr 04 2008: Two off-piste skiers die in avalanche</title>
            <description>By: thinkSPAIN

Two skiers died yesterday on the slopes of mount Tesol near Alt Aneu (Lleida) after getting caught in an avalanche as they were skiing in an off-piste area with a third man, who escaped unhurt and who managed to raise the alarm.

His call was received at 6.21pm. Rescue teams supported by two helicopters were quickly deployed and the recovery mission was completed within the hour, by 7.30pm.

The bodies were taken to Vielha Hospital where routine autopsies will have to be performed before the bodies can be released to the grieving families.

            <title>Feb 28 2008: Motril fire-fighter killed in Sierra Nevada avalanche</title>
<description>A 46 year old fireman from Motril (Granada) died yesterday while out cross-country skiing with three friends in the Sierra Nevada.

The incident occurred at around 6.30pm when the victim, who is described as an expert skier and mountain climber, was caught in an avalanche in an off-piste area in the Dílar river valley near Mount Elorrieta (3,200m).

His body was found late yesterday evening buried under more than two metres of snow after one of the search party spotted one of his skis.

It seems that the victim was well known to the local mountain rescue team, who had saved him on two previous occasions.

            <title>Jan 04 2008: Avalanche kills 3 near Spanish ski resort</title>
<description>MADRID (Reuters) - Three skiers were killed on Friday after being buried by an avalanche near the Spanish resort of Formigal in the Pyrenees, the government said.

Helicopters and a police rescue team with sniffer dogs searched the mountainside after the avalanche occurred in an off-piste area.

&quot; After being buried by the avalanche, two people died during attempts to revive them,&quot; the government&apos;s local representative in the Aragon region said in a statement.

The first skier had been found 45 minutes after the avalanche and the second 20 minutes later. Rescuers later found the body of the third skier.

Police ruled out that any more skiers might be trapped.

An avalanche warning had earlier been issued for off-piste areas at the Formigal ski centre, where heavy snow in recent days has closed some runs, the ski centre said on its Web site.

The incident came at a time when Spanish resorts are usually packed ahead of a holiday weekend just after New Year
